Overview

6,7,12,13-tetrahydro-5H-indolo[2,3-a]pyrrolo[3,4-c]carbazol-5-one is a synthetic or natural indolocarbazole compound structurally related to staurosporine. It is also known as K252c and staurosporine aglycone. This molecule acts as an inhibitor of protein kinases such as protein kinase C (PKC) and protein kinase A (PKA), with reported IC50 values in the low micromolar range. It has been studied primarily in experimental settings for its potential to modulate signaling pathways involved in cancer and other diseases but has not advanced into clinical development or approval for any indication. The compound has also been identified as a potential ligand for various targets including PTPRJ (protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type J), BMPR1A (bone morphogenetic protein receptor type 1A), IL4R (interleukin 4 receptor), CSF2RA (colony stimulating factor 2 receptor alpha), PAK2 (p21 activated kinase 2), GSK3B (glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta), IL6ST (interleukin 6 signal transducer) among others based on cheminformatics predictions; however these are not clinically validated targets at this time[1][3][4][6].
